Elvis on Dance Party: Are you an Elvis Presley fan? Elvis and I became friends in Memphis when he made a guest appearance on TV to promote an upcoming event on WHBQ TV in 1956. My wife Joan Staley and I hung out with Dewey Phillips, Sam Phillips, and others from that time frame. Joan did backup singing at Sun Records with all the greats. Then Joan and I moved to Hollywood and both of us worked in several Elvis films. My daughter Anastasia went to school with Lisa Marie Presley. At Lisa Marie's graduation I told Priscilla that Elvis was one of the nicest people I have ever met.
Whether it's writing, directing, reviving Art Deco, or colorizing Silver Screen Stars, my jobs have always been on the creative side. Even now that I'm in my 90s, and with over a 1,500 images from which to choose, I still look forward to the next decade and reaching 100 and more.
